Marriage

the day that I got married
was the best day of my life
the old part of me died that day
when husband joined with wife

there were no bridesmaids nor groomsmen
for me it was unplanned
twas the best day of my life, still
even without a band

sometimes I look back on that day
and how great it had been
it symbolized our lives together
the day we conquered sin

it started out exciting
this new life we had made
it stirred up a great passion
that grew deeper as I prayed

buy then I got so comfortable
and I ignored my spouse
I made so many foolish choices
when I left the house

but marriage is a covenant
that day we made a promise
our love is unconditional
and can't be broken by this

our love has been a journey
taken one day at a time
I look back on how he's led
and can't describe it with a rhyme

I might marry again someday
and I'll write another verse
but my first love is my shepherd
Yes, I married the Lord first

The Guy

On days like these, I sit on the porch
And write poems that’re
filled with remorse
I watch the kids jump in piles of leaves
Close my eyes and recall the memories

I wonder if she remembers her song
It wasn’t very good
Or  very long
I played it for her under the trees
A song about our memories

I hope she didn’t forget our first date
I felt so awkward
But she could relate
And when she held my hand, she put me at ease
This is just one of my memories

Does she remember the night that we first kissed
It was both our first times
And we almost missed
The stars were more beautiful than we could believe
It’s one of my fondest memories

But there were times when we would fight
But you’d always kiss me
And it’d be all right
We seemed to have so many of these
And they left so many memories

I wonder what has happened to her
Has she found a new love
Are things as they were
But she’s always besides me when I write these
She lives right here in my memories

Maybe tonight I’ll go to Jane
Throw a rock at her window
And kiss her in the rain
Tonight’s the night that this will cease
And we could make more memories

The Girl

The enemy is under her porch
She’s afraid to open up the door
Every day the same as the one before
Oh, what a life she has

And when she wakes up late at night
The enemy is clear in sight
It’s looking at her strait in the eyes
And she wished she’d never looked

She could be doing so much more
But now she’s laying on the floor
Refusing to open up that door
She’s tired of the world

Now she’s just a hollow shell
She isn’t doing very well
At least as far as I can tell
She never leaves that house

Her future used to be so bright
Up until that stormy night
When they had that awful fight
She misses Jack so much

The enemy has her figured out
He’s chewed her up and spit her out
If you haven’t already figured it out
The enemy is time

She wishes that she could go back
Back when she had her life on track
But the enemy has got her trapped
Life only goes one way

Every night she goes upstairs
And glances at the empty chairs
In the mirror, a woman stares
With teary eyes and messy hairs
But she knows at least one man that cares
So before bed she says her prayers
She prays that he’ll come back
And kisses her in the rain

This Life Is

Let's Kiss in the Rain

Simplicity

The universe is massive
and massively complex
It's not the kind of universe
that mere words can express

First let's look at music
there's millions of songs
fast ones, slow ones, many short ones,
while some are hours long

Now let's look at color
there are infinite of these
I can fill a whole computer
with variants of greens

If the universe is physics
I'd have to clench my teeth
to think of the equations
that it hides underneath

So to think about the universe
seems like a waste of time.
It seems like it'd be easier
to leave it all behind

But music's actually simple
If you just zoom out
There are only 12 notes that
a song can have throughout

And color is even easier
just look how it behaves
color's just a measure of
the curviness of waves

Physics may seem infinite
with equations in excess
but scientists've narrowed it down
to 4, or maybe less

The universe is simple
Because God made it so
He is a most efficient God
more wise than we could know

So why would God make life complex
why would he make us lost
Life is more than being good
and more than following laws

Don't stress about the little things
since Jesus died for you
just love God with all your heart
that's all you have to do!
