You and Me Together

This one still needs some work on the verses, but honey badger don't care

I don't know what I expected
and I don't know what I thought
since the say
you put your heart out on display
we have not run out of words to say
and you looked beautiful that day

Some say that I'm distracted
some say I'm stuck in a daze
give me a sign
our conversation lags behind
half of my mind is in another place
we have not run out of words to say

you spoke to me
and suddenly
I began to see
you and me together
you and me together

Love's not what we wanted
cuz breakups suck... berakups suck
so we were friends
for about 2 hours then we realized
friends don't talk this way
we have not run out of words to say

you spoke to me
and suddenly
I began to see
you and me together
you and me together

Don't Try To Compare

Believe it or not, this song was originally written on a ukulele (and much happier). It was the first time I tried to make a song "catchy". Anyways, the description is in the video

You’re throwing fuel into a fire
But it’s not going to burn for you
I’m just an ember over here
Slowly fading
And suffocating

He doesn’t love you like I do
I can see it in his eyes
I’m much more concerned about yours
Your passive glances
Want to take chances

Don’t try to compare
Baby I can see
Him over there
Baby I can see
That you don’t trust me at all
That you don’t trust me at all

You don’t understand your own heart
My arms are open but they’re cold
Our love is permanent and real
You know the right thing
Is in the quicksand sinking

Don’t try to compare
Baby I can see
Him over there
Baby I can see
That you don’t trust me at all
That you don’t trust me at all

You and I

He looks her way
she senses something deeper than those men who act like children that
she's turned away
and now two drops 'o water 've made their way through a vast ocean
somehow, somewhere
has finally come today

She sends a smile
and it's hard to believe that what his friends told him is right because
it's been awhile
he silently rehearses but forgets as he walks over
then out of nowhere
he gets words to say,

"You and I should go somewhere
Close you're eyes- I'll take you there"
I just want to be
your possibility
So just take my hand

Time stands still
and hours of conversation show them both that they were wrong about
love being real
and it's so much better than those songs about atronomy
unlike you, the stars and moon are far away

"You and I should go somewhere
Close you're eyes- I'll take you there"
But I don't want to be
your liability

This Life Is

Another Redu. This is about the life-change that takes place for believers

Give Yourself Some Time

I wrote this over a year ago, and since then I've made some changes. The constant mouth movements are one of those changes.

The lyrics remind me of how prideful I am- like I earned my salvation by "thinking really hard". That's ridiculous! But regardless, here it's one of those songs that didn't disappear, and I still play it from time to time

What do People Talk About in Heaven?

During the holiday season, my roommate and I tried to read through an advent daily devotional. One day, it talked about how the star of Bethlehem led the wise men to Jesus. It said that theologians argue over how a star could lead people to Jesus. All I could think was, “Really? Of all things, THAT’S what y’all argue about?”

So, this week I pose the question: What do people talk about in heaven?

When this life is over and we move on to the next life, I doubt we will talk about movies, sports, or politics. What conversations go on up there?

When we are heaven, we’ll know truths that we could never know while on earth. So, I doubt we’ll talk about whether or not the earth is 6000 years old or whether or not Genesis 1 is a metaphor- it will no longer be up for debate! So did you waste all of your time? It may be useful to have opinions on these kinds of questions, because non-christians may need them answered to give their lives to Christ. However, in the grand scheme of eternity, there are bigger fish to fry.

It gets out of control when we debate things the year Galatians was written, or if Paul or Peter wrote the book of Hebrews. At least having an opinion about the age of the earth may help you evangelize, but questions like these aren't helpful at all! I've fallen into spiritual pitfalls before, and you know what? I never answered my questions and I feel like I wasted my time!

Being a Christian is not confined to a desk an a reading lamp. If you spent all of your time studying the bible and no time applying it, you have missed point! The bible is not a philosophy, it's a lifestyle.

I bet that, in Heaven, we’ll talk about how God used us to change other people's lives and how he used other people to change ours. Our conversations will be about God, not about words on a page written with ink that fades with time. If studying the bible is keeping us from knowing the God of the universe, then we have idolized the knowledge rather than the truth. Like money, you can’t take the knowledge with you to heaven- no one will care whether or not you had the best argument about the age of the earth.

Jesus said, “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steel. (Matt. 26)” Striving for answers to answerless questions not only leads us nowhere, but it distracts us from the more important matters (God’s grace, and his will for your life). I write this out of love, so that we can be as effective for the Lord as possible.

Now let's make this personal, do you talk about God more than you talk to God? Knowing Jesus doesn't mean memorizing the stats on his baseball card. Give him a call- he'd love to talk to you.

In My Heart

I put your love in a paper bag and I took it into town
I put your love in a paper book and carried it around
I hang it up when I go to bed and when I wake I take it down
But it ripped but it ripped apart

I put your love in a glass jar and I tied it too by belt
I put your love in a glass jar and I kept it to myself
I want to carry your love with me; not keep it on a shelf
But it shattered it shattered apart

The only safe place too keep you love is right here in my heart
It protects it from the elements, storing it there was smart
It’s better than the paper bag and the jar shattered apart
In my heart in my heart in my heart
